Tomato sauce is a staple in many kitchens and can be used in a variety of dishes. Here's a simple recipe to make tomato sauce at home:
Ingredients:
6-8 ripe tomatoes, chopped
1 onion, chopped
3-4 cloves of garlic, minced
2 tablespoons of olive oil
Salt and pepper to taste
Optional: 1 teaspoon of sugar (to balance the acidity of the tomatoes)
Instructions:
Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.
Add the chopped onion and minced garlic and sauté for 3-4 minutes, or until the onions are soft and translucent.
Add the chopped tomatoes to the pot, stir well and bring to a simmer.
Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot and let the tomatoes cook for about 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Once the tomatoes have cooked down and are soft, remove the pot from the heat and let it cool for a few minutes.
Use an immersion blender or transfer the tomato mixture to a blender and blend until smooth.
If the sauce is too thick, you can add a bit of water to thin it out.
Season the sauce with salt and pepper to taste. If the sauce is too acidic, you can add a teaspoon of sugar to balance the flavor.
Your homemade tomato sauce is now ready to use! You can store it in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week or freeze it for later use.
